Homebrew CNC machine

Hardcore case mods often require a lot of work. Scratch-building something can require even more work. If you're really into your mods, chances are you'll have had a custom part laser cut, or CNC'd. Of course, those options require knowing people with the relevant kit.
What if you want control of your own destiny, though? Well, you could always go and buy your own CNC machine for projects. But is that really in the spirit of the modder? No! The correct answer is that you can go and
build your own CNC machine, and that is just what Javadog is doing. We suspect that he's crazy.
Actually deciphering a lot of the log requires quite a lot of engineering knowledge, but it's worth attempting to get to grips with. If you're not familiar with CNC machines, they hook up to a computer and are able to cut and shape materials according to computer commands.
Javadog has been working on the upper gantry plate, as well as the Y-Axis Ballscrew and Crossplate, as well as the Z-Axis Linear Slide. We told you that making sense of this required engineering knowledge!
It's slightly ironic that making a tool requires more tools to make. Screws need screwing, holes need countersinking and there are plenty of bits to be fiddled with.
These final couple of pics show just how mean the CNC machine is starting to look. To get the full picture, head over to the
worklog and read the whole thing through - it's a fascinating undertaking.
